If you would like to direct a domain name that you have to some other domain or subdomain, one of the ways to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is directed to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the site which you have set up, but it will also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the traffic from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that this kind of a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

Creating a CNAME record through our cloud web hosting plans is extremely easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in just a few simple steps. You can find a video tutorial in the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you many opportunities - if you set up a company site on our end, as an illustration, the workers can use their e-mails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to set up a website through a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you are able to create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain name, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will take just a few mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled through our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel in which you will see a section dedicated to the DNS records of the domains and subdomains hosted inside the account. To set up a CNAME record, you will simply have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), enter where the latter is going to be pointed to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record inside the account is just as easy and takes a click. If you experience any issues, you can go through our in-depth help article, watch the short video on the subject that we have added in the Control Panel, or you can just contact us for assistance.
